new machine at jaybowl

Postby Zerorocky » Fri Jul 29, 2005 1:04 pm

If anyone in the area still cares, a new machine was put in the jaybowl recently. 3 quarters for four songs, no dual premium. Up arrow on the left pad kept screwing with me (though it might have been me just being out of practice), and the screen edges do this wierd pulsing thing, but at least we have a machine again.

I have some friends going to KU this fall who'll certainly care about this... just to ask, although I can probably guess the answer, is this a DDR Extreme?

Yeah, it's Extreme. I haven't played it yet, but the Kansas Union is turning back to normal hours within the next week.

As of the start of the fall semester, that machine seems to have joint premium enabled. Also, I haven't noticed any stickiness on the up arrow, but the right arrow on the left pad sometimes seems to have issues holding freezes. Then again, I could just be imagining it.

i went to this machine like a week and a half ago, and it sucks.

1. the volume was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too quiet. and by way too quiet i mean i literally could not hear the music. if you've been to this arcade you know that your steps/stomps really echo in the area the machine is in, and this combined with how low the volume is, i couldn't hear anything whatsoever(i got like 37 greats on freckles.....i've AAAd it before)

2. pads suck. on the left pad i was getting like 10 phantoms per song. the right pad was a little better, but still not very good.

the only good thing is the 75 cents joint premium 4 songs. oh yeah and i dunno how long ago they took out the whole arcade, but as of now DDR is the only game in there, so it takes quarters now, not tokens.

Yeah, the volume's not great on there. It was really bad at Union Fest - maybe just because the whole union was so noisy that day. It's a little better now - at least audible - but could still do to be a bit louder. I haven't really noticed the issues with the phantoms on it, although that may have something to do with me being a n00b Light player. :)

Also, I went down there to play today, and the DDR machine was blocked by pieces of an air hockey table on the floor - maybe they're planning on adding more to the arcade? Would be nice. Of course, they've got the other corner of the area taken up with three TVs and game systems (nice that we're non-console partisan here at KU :). Not a whole lot room to add stuff down there, but we'll see what happens.

Hm. Seems that the volume's been turned up on the machine - much better now. The air hockey table is also up and running now, although I can't remember the prices on it...

The machine had been dead for a while, but it's come back to life now, in better shape than it's been for a long time. They completely replaced the monitor in it, and it looks amazing. Probably the best monitor I've seen on an Extreme in quite a while. The pads still aren't perfect, but they're much better than they have been. The left side, which used to be totally unplayable, is now working fine, with the very occasional pad miss on the up arrow. It's certainly better than the pads being so unresponsive that they actually add 30 to your great count on a song. I didn't get a chance to test out the right side well (played a round of doubles, but I suck too much to notice pad issues), but from watching others play, I didn't notice any obvious problems.

The one thing I did notice is that the machine is set to 3 songs now. I don't know if that's an intentional change or if someone just was unaware of what was going on when they set it back up. I may ask someone about that when I get a chance. Still 75 cents.

Just to update on this, the machine's been downgraded to Max2. Something different, I guess.
